Friday Random Ten - 07.22.05
Time for Friday Random Ten, where you hit "shuffle" on your favorite digital music player (for me my Windows MediaPlayer at work) and report on the first ten songs that it spits out.
A very special FRT this week, made entirely of legal downloads. These ten are from the boatload of mp3's I've encountered on other blogs lately.
I couldn't tell you where I originally saw them, but two good sources for interesting mp3s are Some Velvet Blog (written by WXPN program directer Bruce Warren) and Fingertips. And just today Paige over at Miss Domestic posted a few good ones, including the excellent new My Morning Jacket song.
I never know where I'm going to find these things, but rest assured, if you put one up on your blog, chances are I'll download it. I'm an mp3 whore.
So this week, instead of pointing you towards the album these songs come from, clicking on them will send you to the page where you, too, can download the song. Act fast, there's no guarantees on how long these songs will be available for free.
[I didn't feel comfortable hosting these downloads right on my blog, so clicking on the "here" links will take you to the page where they are available (it will not start right into the download). I realize this is an extra step, but most of these pages offer the bonus of having more than just the one mp3 listed here.]
Here goes:
"High On A Hilltop" - Laura Cantrell (from here)
"Don't Know Why" - The Spectacular Fantastic (from here)
"A Movie Script Ending" - Death Cab For Cutie (from here - click on "Media" tab)
"I Am A Full Grown Man (I Will Lay In The Grass All Day)" - Phosphorescent (from here - click on "More Info")
"Don't Have To Be So Sad" - Yo La Tengo (from here)
"Gonna Never Have To Die" - Guided By Voices (from here)
"Scared Heart" - Cass McCombs (from here)
"There Will Come A Time" - Steve Wynn (from here)
"I Will Never See The Sun" - Great Lake Swimmers (from here - click on "More Info")
"Tony Adams" - Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros (from here)
No awards this week, they're all pretty good (though I really like the Joe Strummer song).

Hey, thanks for the Joe Strummer tip! I love that. I wasn't aware of his post-Clash stuff.
