Friday Random Ten - The "It Would Be Really Cool If It All Turned Out To Be A Dream And I Wake Next To Suzanne Pleshette Back In Our Old Chicago Apartment Except That - Geez - Pleshette's Gotta Be Pushing Seventy By Now" Edition
If you caught my Tuesday night post you read about my submitting a list of my top 30 or so albums each week to RIYLmusic.com. I'm not bragging here folks, just recapping. So anyway, my plan is to post those lists to this here blog before I send it out to RIYL HQ.
And then there's the Friday Random Ten. If I were to continue with FRT it would mean two music list posts a week and that's a little too much for even me. Since the Internets will be counting on my musical wisdom through RIYL, the FRT's gotta go.
Actually, FRT was never really completely random. It's the dirty little secret of FRT participants - the iTunes shuffle button never really shuffles very well. At least for me it doesn't. Oh, and sometimes I would maybe sometimes kinda skip over a lesser song. That's the real dirty little secret of FRT. He's fun to listen to every once in a while, but there's only so much Boozoo Chavis you can take. And yet, every Friday, there he'd be. And Dick Dale. Oy, twelve (out of about 4000) songs on my computer are by the King of the Surf Guitar, but it's a rare day he doesn't show up on my player.
Add to all that the fact that I sometimes assemble my ten on Thursday and have even been known to list more than ten songs, and you start wondering what the point is really. (Okay, the point is being able to write easy post on the day where all your energy should be on getting out of work early and not on writing posts).
So this is it for FRT, at least for now. It's been a wild ride. Not really, but I did find a lot of cool blogs through trackbacks and links, so that was cool. Plus you really can't get much easier than posting ten songs, except when I would find free downloads for you all. Ugh, that was a bear.
Here goes:

Emily Hartley: "Go back to sleep, Mark"
[Fade to black.]

In iTunes, go to "Playback." There's a "Smart Shuffle" feature that makes it more or less likely that songs from the same artist or album will appear concurrently. Slide it all the way to "Less Likely." Bingo. A truly random ten.

I tried that! Helped a little, but not enough.

Bob Newhart isn't looking too fetching these days, but what the hey, he's still as funny as ever.
With regards to your list: with the sole exception of "Various Artists", I can honestly say I've not heard of ONE of those singers or groups. I'm oddly proud of that.

Tupelo's "We've Been Had" would've been a great way for your FRT to go out in style.
