Tomorrow's Washington Post Outlook section asks some (poli-sci, maybe?) professors to predict where Bush the Second will be ranked on the big list of past presidents - once he finally [finally, finally] becomes a past president. The answers (at least of the four opinion pieces that have already been posted on-line) range from "worst ever" to "at least he's better than Nixon" to "Hoover-esque" to "Reply hazy, try again".
That last one is from a guy who Worked. For. Bush. and the best he could do was write that maybe, maybe, if everything from here on out somehow goes brilliantly and after enough time has passed for people to forget about all the bad things Bush has done, he might, might, hope to be remembered as an average president.
The "He's not Nixon" piece assumes that Bush hasn't been quite as tricky as Dick was, though something tells me that opinion could change with the arrival of some much-overdue checks and balances.
They're not surprising results, but they do make for some interesting reading.
