When the Leeves Broke

Last night, we were watching When the Leeves Broke on HBO.  It is apparently NOT a Spike Lee Joint. It was an excellent documentary because it got real life gritty.  It brought it all home in such a way that the mainstream media didn't.  I still contend that if Katrina hit in Maine or certain parts of California, the response from our government would have been much swifter.  I think that we got aid to the Tsunami victims faster.  I am not so stupid not to recognize that racism still exists today but to see it that blatant took my breath away.  The fact that time was wasted in hearings when people were suffering was ridiculously.  I won't bring politics into this because it is clear that those on both sides of the aisle messed up.  I don't know how GOP can excuse such abuse.  (I don't think that I have heard many Dems that are high up try to explain away their behavior... maybe I am wrong!)

The Documentary did it's job in that it made me as angry as I was a year ago.

Dear Annoying Red Bikini Lady,

Today was the first time that I saw you at Crystal Lake Pool.  I also noticed that you made a beeline to the lifeguard stand to complain about two boys that were roughousing in the pool.  You said that the oldest one was being mean to the little one.  You wondered where their mom was.  (I was right there)

I noticed that you didn't have any children with you.  So there is a possibility that you couldn't understand that after the sixty-fifth time that they were told to stop fighting and the fact that I was sick, I figured that splashing in the pool was harmless, relatively speaking.  They weren't in danger.

You wouldn't know that I am usually the mom that watches their kids like hawks especially around the pool.  I am nowhere near the other moms who just blithely sit by while their kids are doing stunt jumps and the like.  Before you put your nose in a situation where kids are not in danger, I would think about these things.  You don't know me and don't know my kids.  It sucks that you make such sweeping judgements.  Too bad for you.

What's Going On?

It's been a while since I've written.  No particular reason why.  Too busy, too tired... not much to say...

The 9 yo is at camp.  He has been there all week.  I feel kind of bad for him because he has really been suffering with crazy allergies the whole time.  I don't think that he has been sleeping too well because of them.  He has not been so bad off that he wants to stay home though.  I consider a week of camp to be a success when he comes home dirty from head to toe.  I did promise him a day of just chillin' around the house.  Next year, the then 5yo will go to camp with him.  They are already talking about it.  I'm just wondering what I am going to do with myself.  (sleeping more comes to mind!  Maybe a Gym trip!) 

Last week, my beloved was in San Diego. (great week to be away with liquids!)  I played "Single Mom" for the week.  Beloved does not go away too often but when he does, I get a renewed respect for moms without partners.  I kept them busy all week.  Less time to miss Dad and even less time to make me nuts!   We took a day trip to Ocean City and went to the Grandparent's house for an overnight trip.  On Friday, the 9yo had an audition for a PBS Kids Go commercial.  (We were the only ones there without a headshot and resume.  Well... we did have a headshot of sorts... his third grade picture)  I don't know how it will turn out.  Cool stories for the start of school no matter what happens!  I just hope that 9 yo will stop spending his money before he finds out if he got the job! 

We just got the 4yo's birthday pictures taken at Target.  We were late but Beloved was unhappy with how the ones that he took came out.  I was extremely happy with the pictures.  They were awesome and reasonably priced!  We'll definitely go back for the Christmas shots.  He has some looks on his face that might be goofy to others but are definitely him.

I think that I am definitely ready for the summer to wind down.  I have a feeling that I may be getting too old to run the day camp that is at our house.
