One of my pet peeves (and I don't even know if it counts as a pet peeve) is when kids don't wear helmets. I have to say that mine always do. They have worn helmets right from the get go because we have always wanted to make sure that it was understood that helmets and the like (like knee pads and elbow pads for rollerblading) are one of those non-negotiable rules. It's a safety rule and we don't mess with the safety "gods". Luckily, our boys never question such rule because we tell them that it's the law!
For the life of me, I don't understand parents who don't insist on their kids wearing helmets. There are scores of kids here who don't and I don't get it! (much like I don't get the kids who get to sit in the front seat for the long car rides) There is a kid that I see constantly riding his dirt bike without a helmet (remember that football player? Didn't his parents hear?) I can't watch him because I get scared to death that he will have this big accident right in front of my face and I won't be able to do anything to help him.
See how cute the 4yo looks? He looks like Super Dave Osborne! Go google him and you'll know what I am talking about! The 9yo has a super cool Tony Hawk-like helmet. You gotta be a little creative and make sure the kids have an interest in their helmets and actually want to wear it!
I love Super Dave! Especially when he's working with Tommy Smothers.
