Midnight Madness is a basketball tournament that is held at our local HS. Kids from the third grade to high school participate against each other in short games. The third grade plays the fourth (the older grade seemed to trounce the younger ones. The 9yo won his game with a score of 34-4.) and so on.
In between games they have free-throw contests for the parents. If you get picked, you stand and try to make a shot. I took a shot in place of another mom who didn't want to go out. TONS of dads were ahead of me and they all missed. Lots of pressure but I got up there and made the crucial shot of the game. I was shocked that it went in and I was jumping up and down. (We never win anything so my reaction was pretty understandable.) I picked up my hoodie and was ready to bask in the accolades of my family when the 9yo said this:
"NEVER do that to me again. All that jumping around... You embarrassed me in front of my friends."
**sigh** I didn't realize that "pre-teen" angst started at NINE YEARS OLD!
