T-minus 16 hours before the missus and the seven-year old board a plane for their four-day jaunt to Louavul. Four days of just me and the three-year old. Time to bond with the boy.... time to enjoy his little-guy personality before he gets too big... time to just
GOOD GOD, PEOPLE! I HAVE NO IDEA HOW I'M GOING TO GET THROUGH THIS!
Nah, I kid. While this is the first time I've been the one home with a kid (I've often left the missus on her own), I think I can handle it. Other than a recent artistic flair that he's displayed on the furniture and the walls, the three-year old isn't that crazy. The one piece of advice the missus has left me is, "keep him busy and wear him out."
With that in mind, I've come up with some father-son activities for our long (looooooong) weekend:
Friday: WXPN Free-At-Noon concert with Camper Van Beethoven. My son's going to have to learn "Take the Skinheads Bowling" sometime, might as well be now.
Saturday: Get out the babyjogger and run the Medford 5K. This will be my first time this year for pushing the kid in a race. I'm not sure I'm ready for that right now, but I'm thinking the three-year old's too young to leave home alone. If the weather cooperates I'll try to get us out to the pool afterward.
Sunday: Father's Day. Yeah, happy friggin' Father's Day to me. Sleep late? Ha! But you can bet the boy and I are going out for a big pancake breakfast. Then maybe the pool?
Monday: Either the Discovery Museum or the Franklin Institute. Then run around like a madman cleaning up the house eagerly anticipate the return of the missus and the seven-year old.
I was thinking about driving down the beach one of the days (just to make the jet-setters in our family jealous), but I think that might be asking for trouble. I was also thinking about taking the boy out to a BioDemocracy 2005 protest. Seems that the BioTech 2005 conference is in Philly next week, and some people aren't too happy about that whole "genetically modified" thing. I think the boy and I are going to have to skip the protests, though. I'm not worried so much about getting harassed by the man, I'm more worried about my son's reaction to some of those huge, freaky protest puppets.
No matter what we do, I'm sure we'll be alright.
Pray for me, just in case.
Piece of cake! The 3 year old may well be the most happy-go-lucky kid in the family. You'll have a blast.
